Online Courses

So, you want to build online and blended learning?

Canvas LMS is a web-based learning management system that was selected to be Region 13’s primary LMS and delivery method for online learning components. Canvas was evaluated on multiple criteria including features, learner experience, market adoption, open architecture, flexibility, scalability, and reliability. This evaluation led to a pilot implementation in March of 2016 with enterprise deployment starting in September 2016.

Getting started with Canvas is pretty simple.
1. Complete the Canvas Nuts & Bolts online course.
2. Once you have completed Nuts & Bolts, get set up with a Canvas sandbox to start learning the Canvas tools. Just email onlinelearning@esc13.txed.net to let us know you are ready for your sandbox.
3. When you have a course topic, set up a quick meet with our team and we will get you set up with a blank course to start working on. Hit us up at onlinelearning@esc13.txed.net

Tier 1 – Entry Level Learning Management System (LMS) Support

Tier 1 support for online courses is very similar to what you’ve come to expect from our team and how we support you with face-to-face workshops. This is pretty much the built-in support where we help you get your course ideas and content into the system and out into the world for your customers to see.

  • Course brainstorming
  • General LMS training and support
  • Basic video and multimedia setup support
  • Customer Support

Tier 2 – LMS Support and Limited Design and Media Support

Our team gets a little more hands-on in Tier 2. Still your content and course building, but we’ll spend some time talking through layout, structure, and some basic assistance with producing simple multimedia for your course.

Tier 1 +

  • Recommendations for student engagement and assessment
  • Suggestions for streamlining course management, organization, and usability
  • Video and multimedia production assistance

Tier 3 – LMS Support Plus Custom Instructional Design Development and Support

Tier 3 online course projects are much more involved in terms of the number of staff supporting the effort and the moving parts to make it all come together. Typically these projects involve developing a full statement of work as well as some clearly defined project management roles and may bring in help from the design and multimedia teams. Tier 3 may also involve bringing in contract instructional designers to help get the project done.

Tier 1 + Tier 2 +

  • Help with activities that engage students with the content and each other
  • Project management
  • Instructional design and course style guide design
  • Video and multimedia production
